Eating disorder diagnosis

If you think you have an eating disorder, it’s important to make an appointment to see your GP. They will be able to give you a full assessment in order to give you a diagnosis.

During the assessment, you will be asked about your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. They will check to see if your body mass index (BMI) is too high or too low. They will ask about your diet and see if there has been any rapid weight loss or gain. You may be asked about the reasons for your symptoms and relationships.

It may be difficult to talk about but it’s important to open and honest with your doctor so that you can receive the most appropriate help for your needs.
