6,000 Lloyds Banking Group colleagues Walk the Talk for Mental Health UK

In 2017, Lloyds Banking Group colleagues voted for Mental Health UK to be their chosen charity partner. The partnership has raised an amazing £6.5 million so far, smashing the original target of £2 million per year.

In September last year we challenged Lloyds Banking Group colleagues to take on the Fortitude challenge; consisting of four challenges, starting in four nations Colleagues completed the challenge heroically, to raise money over £350,000 for Mental Health UK. This year, colleagues have raised the bar, with over 6000 signed up to Walk the Talk around the UK, and 35 colleagues heading to China to embark on a 5 day trek of the Great Wall.

Taking place between 10-21 September, Walk the Talk aims to get people walking and talking about mental health, helping to reduce the stigma attached to mental illness whilst raising funds for Mental Health UK.

Mental health problems can have a big impact on the lives of those affected and their loved ones. It can be an isolating experience in-part because of the stigma still attached to mental illness and people not knowing where to turn. Research from Lloyds Banking Group and Mental Health UK has found that two thirds of people (67%) are more comfortable talking about mental health conditions now than five years ago.

However, three quarters of people still believe there’s a stigma attached to people with mental health conditions, and the same proportion would be unwilling to discuss their own mental health issues. Walk the Talk aims to change that by asking colleagues to walk and talk to change attitudes towards mental health whilst aiming to raise over £250,000 for Mental Health UK.
